CIRSEAU bridges research, policy, and markets to fast-track Europe's shift to smarter, more resilient water management.
EUROPE'S WATER PROBLEM DESERVES MORE THAN ANOTHER PILOT
Water stress is increasing across Europe, yet many proven solutions remain stuck at the pilot stage. CIRSEAU addresses this directly by building on the results of five leading EU-funded initiatives — B-WaterSmart, REWAISE, ULTIMATE, WATER-MINING, and Wider Uptake — rather than starting from scratch. By clustering their knowledge and networks, the project creates a unique bridge between research, policy, and market uptake, helping Europe move faster towards a circular and resilient water system. At its core is the creation of a Circular Water Economy Community connecting public authorities, businesses, researchers, and citizens.
A PERMANENT ECOSYSTEM FOR WATER INNOVATION
Through dedicated working groups, CIRSEAU focuses on four key areas: market uptake of innovative water solutions, policy development, removal of social barriers, and training of Young Water Professionals. By bringing together knowledge from over 80 projects and engaging stakeholders across sectors, it supports the adoption of solutions such as water reuse, digital water management, and resource recovery including brine mining. Rather than isolated innovation, the project co-creates solutions and roadmaps with stakeholders, making circular water practices more accessible, accepted, and ready for large-scale adoption across Europe.
WATER SOLUTIONS THAT KEEP SPREADING
CIRSEAU's biggest impact lies in creating a permanent collaborative ecosystem that continues well beyond the project period. By connecting knowledge, people, and implementation across sectors and borders, it accelerates the uptake of water solutions that already work. Policy development is strengthened, skills are built through Young Water Professional training, and a lasting European network is taking shape through workshops and ongoing stakeholder engagement. The result is a more connected, capable, and water-smart Europe, better equipped to face the growing pressures of climate change and water scarcity.
