ArTrics Villaverde: Where Creativity Meets Opportunity

In Villaverde, ArTrics uses theatre, visual arts, and film to unlock the creative potential of young people in one of Madrid's most disadvantaged districts.

WHERE OPPORTUNITY IS SCARCE, CREATIVITY OPENS DOORS

In Villaverde, one of Madrid's most disadvantaged districts, many young people face unemployment, school dropout, and few chances to develop their potential. ArTrics was created to change this. The programme gives young people a real space to learn and create through three disciplines: performing arts, visual arts, and audiovisual production. Working in teams with professional guidance, participants make work inspired by real social issues — inequality, cultural diversity, gender-based violence, and sustainability — turning their own experiences into something meaningful.

CREATORS OF THEIR OWN STORY

ArTrics treats young people not as an audience but as creators. Workshops and masterclasses in theatre, dance, visual arts, and film are connected to social media and local cultural spaces, giving participants the tools to make, share, and spread their work beyond the district. Artistic training, social reflection, and digital skills are combined in one programme, creating new ways for young people to take part in civic and cultural life. The model is built to be replicated in other European cities facing similar challenges.

2,300 YOUNG PEOPLE, 40 PRODUCTIONS, ONE COMMUNITY

Over 2,300 young people have taken part in ArTrics, with around 250 involved in active creative projects. More than 40 productions have been made, including performances, short films, theatre pieces, and exhibitions, bringing new cultural life to Villaverde and changing how its young residents are seen. By building lasting creative groups and practical skills, ArTrics creates something that goes beyond individual projects: a confident, connected young community with a real stake in their neighbourhood.
