e-engAGEd connects young volunteers and seniors across Europe in a shared fight against disinformation, building media literacy and digital confidence across 23 countries.
BRIDGING THE GENERATIONAL DIGITAL DIVIDE
Across Europe, the digital divide is not only a question of access but of confidence, critical thinking, and trust. Disinformation spreads fastest where media literacy is weakest, and both young people and seniors are vulnerable in different ways. e-engAGEd was designed to bridge this gap through an intergenerational approach. Starting with a transnational survey across four countries that informed all subsequent actions, the project trained 270 young volunteers in Greece, France, and Italy as Media Literacy Trainers, who then supported 157 seniors through intergenerational workshops, creating genuine dialogue and mutual learning across generations.
FROM LOCAL WORKSHOPS TO A EUROPEAN NETWORK
What gives e-engAGEd its European reach is how it scaled. Over 400 participants engaged in debates across Europe, contributing to policy recommendations for European and national decision-makers. Professional journalists were involved in training development, bridging the gap between media producers and citizens. A transnational Media Literacy Trainers' Network, maintained through shared online platforms, ensures that collaboration and knowledge sharing continue well beyond the project's lifetime. By the end, the project had reached more than 1,100 citizens across 23 European countries, far exceeding its initial targets.
BUILDING A MORE RESILIENT AND INFORMED EUROPE
e-engAGEd's most significant contribution is the lasting infrastructure it leaves behind: a growing transnational network of trained media literacy advocates spanning 23 countries. Participants across Europe improved their critical thinking, digital confidence, and resilience to disinformation. By connecting young people and seniors through shared learning, the project also strengthened intergenerational understanding and social cohesion. In a Europe where disinformation and digital exclusion threaten democratic participation, e-engAGEd demonstrates that grassroots, community-driven media literacy is one of the most powerful tools available.
