TESTING WATER SOLUTIONS IN REAL LIFE
REWAISE responds to growing challenges such as water scarcity, leakage, and inefficient wastewater management through a network of nine Living Labs across Europe. These sites serve as real-world environments where new approaches are tested and adapted to local needs. The project explores solutions, including water reuse, desalination, and the recovery of materials and nutrients from wastewater. By combining research with everyday application, REWAISE helps transform how water resources are managed and valued.
BRINGING PEOPLE AND TECHNOLOGY TOGETHER
Rather than developing technologies in isolation, REWAISE applies them directly in cities and communities while actively involving citizens, researchers, businesses, and public authorities. This integrated approach links digital tools, resource recovery, and alternative water sources into a single circular system. In Sweden’s Skåne region, for example, rainwater is reused for toilets, and stormwater is captured in residential areas and universities, reducing pressure on drinking water supplies and demonstrating the potential of decentralised solutions.
BUILDING A MORE RESILIENT WATER FUTURE
REWAISE creates tangible benefits by bringing sustainable water practices into everyday life. In Sweden, rainwater reuse systems can save up to 36,000 litres of drinking water annually per installation, while nutrient recovery and decentralised systems support a more efficient use of resources. Through collaboration, education, and practical implementation, the project raises awareness of water sustainability and provides a replicable model that can help communities across Europe build more resilient and circular water systems.
