CREATING SAFE SPACES ACROSS THE BOROUGH
Launched in 2026, Camden Safe Havens responds to growing concerns about harassment and violence by establishing a network of accredited venues where people can seek help. Delivered in partnership with the Safer Business Network, the initiative brings together cafés, libraries, pubs, and community centres that offer practical support such as access to water, Wi-Fi, phone charging, and assistance in contacting friends, family, or emergency services. More than 20 venues have already joined the network, with additional organisations continuing to apply.
TURNING EVERYDAY PLACES INTO SUPPORT HUBS
The initiative transforms familiar community spaces into trusted places of safety through specialist training and clear safeguarding standards. Participating venues are equipped to provide non-judgmental, trauma-informed support and display visible Safe Haven branding to make assistance easy to find. By combining practical resources with human support and working closely with local businesses and organisations, Camden has created a community-based model that is accessible, scalable, and rooted in partnership.
BUILDING A SAFER AND MORE INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY
Camden Safe Havens strengthens both real and perceived safety by ensuring help is available close to where people need it. Supported by the Camden Safety Bus operating at night, the initiative expands the borough’s safety infrastructure and increases awareness of available support. It also encourages businesses and community organisations to take an active role in safeguarding, helping to foster a culture of shared responsibility and creating a more inclusive and responsive environment for residents and visitors alike.
